Myself, Marketing exective
multiple projects overview
Whilst at Numberly, I was the dedicated designer for L’Oréal UK and received the briefs from marketing for all the brands requesting email creative work.
I would receive a brief from the marketing department and would have 3 hours to develop concepts and produce designs for both desktop and mobile versions to send to the client for review.
Below are my favourite projects for NYX Professional Makeup (NYXPMU).
NYX Professional Makeup Epic Ink liner email
Brief: Design an email to promote NYXPMU's Epic Ink Liner product and introduce customers to the Ultimate Shadow Palette range.
The clean design of this email and calligraphy style title was designed to emphasise the "ultra fine" tip and neat finish of the liner, whilst the treatment of the imagery (polaroids and offset black borders) was used to draw the users attention to the eyeliner on the models.
One of the key considerations for this email was how to display all of the palettes in an eye-catching banner. I was provided with several images of the palette and chose to create a GIF out of the closed palette shot and the shadow swatches bringing a dynamic element to the email.
The client asked for a copy of the PSDs and created banners for the NYX Professional Makeup website from my designs - the ultimate compliment to my work!
NYX Professional Makeup Pro Approval email
Brief: Design an email to congratulate NYXPMU's new Pro members and remind them of their 20% discount on products and how to use it.
As I was not provided with any assets for this brief, I sketched out several design concepts, looking at past emails, NYXPMU's website and social media posts for inspiration.
The main challenge for this email was to present a lot of information into clear sections that was easily digestible. The client said that in the existing email, the message was not clear or the offer enticing and as a result the click through rate was very low.
The concept I decided to developed used polaroids of influencers and swatches of product textures as the top banner to showcase the key 20% off discount message and capture the spirit of NYXPMU. In the mobile version, one of the polaroids and some of the texture swatches were removed from the top banner to prevent it from looking overcrowded whilst maintaining the strong visual impact.
I created an outlined section for secondary information with texture swatches to tie the sections together and product features to encourage the user to browse.
The client's feedback was very positive: "Really strong and clear" and "Exciting and very attractive email"
NYX Professional Makeup Cosmic Metals email
Brief: Design an email to promote NYXPMU's New Cosmic metals product range.
For this email I wanted to keep the design uncomplicated and clean to showcase the products.
I added the swatches of the lip creams either side of the copy to connect it with the hero image above and placed the polaroid of the model at an angle and offset to give this simple email a more edgy, visually striking look.
This design was approved without any amendments needed.
NYX Professional Makeup city sets email
Brief: Design an email to promote NYXPMU's Limited Edition City Sets.
For this brief, I was supplied with the designs for the hero banner so focused solely on the layout of the product images and second banner.
Firstly, the marketing executive in charge of this brief brainstormed ideas on how best to present these and from this I developed two concepts around travel, where the City Set is your passport.
Following further feedback from the client, the theme they wanted to base the email around was Christmas so using the banner as inspiration, I created a gift wrap theme around the city kits, with sections of foil paper behind the products and bows tying the banner and product section design together.
This is an email design I am very proud of and enjoyed experimenting with the products layout.
